ITInErARY open trip komodo 3h2m

In general, for the Komodo Sailing Open Trip 3D2N itinerary all ships will visit the same destinations. But what distinguishes each ship is the route that will be taken. For example, if we will take the North to South route, then we will snorkel first on Kanawa Island, Manta Point and Taka Makasar. Conversely, if we take the South Route, then we will trek on Kelor Island, (snorkelling at Manjarite) Trek on Rinca Island to see Komodo Dragons and enjoy Sunset on Kalong Island. The Komodo Islands are very famous for their strong ocean currents, therefore the tour boats sailing in the Komodo Islands must adjust the tides. Tour boats will adjust to the conditions at sea. The travel routes that we inform, are only limited to the benchmarks that we usually do. The most updated routes and destinations, will be informed by the Guide when on the Ship.

Kelor Island

On Kelor Island, we will climb the hill to see a very beautiful view. The gradation of the sea water, the beach, the boats and the hill of Keeping Island will be the background when we take photos from the top. To climb to the top, it only takes about 15 normal times. You must follow the directions of the guide when you want to climb the hill, because the Kelor Island hill is quite steep.

Manjarite

Manjarite is one of the snorkelling spots. It is close to Kelor Island. The snorkelling spot is in the jetty area. However, in our opinion, the reefs and biota around the Manjarite pier are not good. You have to swim away from the pier to get a coral reef. (must follow the guide’s directions). Some tour boats do not take the Manjarite spot for some reason.

Rinca Island

Rinca Island is included in the Komodo National Park area. Surely, we will meet Komodo dragons on this island. Rinca Island has been reorganised in 2020-2022 by adding a Museum that makes it easier for the Ranger / Naturalist Guide to explain the Ancient Animal “Komodo” and the Komodo National Park area in general. We can still trek into the forest and hills to explore more deeply on Rinca Island. During activities in the area, it is highly expected to comply with the directions of the Guide / Ranger Naturalist Guide.

Kalong Island

One of the most favourite spots to enjoy Sunset in Komodo National Park is Kalong Island. For the Komodo Open Trip, we will definitely visit Kalong Island. Kalong / Bats will come out of the trees (mangrove trees) when Sunset. Make sure we stay outside the boat when approaching sunset. The bats will head to the Flores Island Forest (Main Island) to find food. It is strictly prohibited to fly drones in the Kalong Island area, let alone set off fireworks.

Padar Island

Padar Island is now one of the iconic attractions when visiting Komodo National Park, apart from the Komodo Ancient Animals. The view from the top of Padar Island during Sunrise and Sunset is very beautiful. You can clearly see all the tour boats parked in the waters of Padar Island, the three-coloured sand (white, black and pink) and Komodo Island and Rinca Island, which are the big islands in the Komodo National Park area. The time needed to reach the top of Padar Island is about 45 minutes of normal time or have to take about 817 steps. It is expected that those with asthma / heart disease are not allowed to climb or can be informed to field officers.

Komodo Island

Komodo Island / Loh Buaya is also a spot to see the ancient animal “Komodo”. Just like on Rinca Island. To find Komodo dragons, you still have to go to the free area (forest / field) around the area. For the Komodo Open Trip, one of the spots to see Komodo will be taken. Either on Rinca Island or Komodo Island. On Komodo Island there is also a Naturalist Guide / Ranger who will accompany you while in the Komodo National Park area at Loh Liang. It is not recommended to walk alone without the knowledge of the Ranger/Guide.

Pink Beach

There are several Pink Beach in Komodo National Park. The one we will visit is Pink Beach on Padar Island. Pink Beach on Padar Island is in our opinion the most beautiful Pink Beach of all. In addition to the pink sand, Pink Beach on Padar Island also has very clear water and a magnificent view of the hills of Padar Island. Relaxing and enjoying young coconuts here is the perfect choice. It’s best to just swim on the beach, as snorkelling on Padar Island is not optimal.

Taka Makassar

Taka Makassar is the best snorkelling spot of all Komodo Open Trip itineraries. Colourful coral reefs and diverse marine life. However, this Taka Makasar spot has a fairly strong current. It is not recommended to snorkel alone without being accompanied by a guide. Taka Makasar also has a very beautiful sand dune. The sand is white and slightly reddish in colour.

Manta Point

The next favourite spot for snorkelling is Manta Point. When we are lucky, we will see hordes of mantas swimming slowly on the surface. The Manta Point spot is located adjacent to Taka Makasar where the water currents here are also known to be quite strong. The guide will give directions before snorkelling at Manta Point. Usually before going down to the sea, the guide will look for Manta with the main boat or with a lifeboat. When the guide sees Manta, it will notify all participants to immediately prepare. Do not get separated from the group, do not hold the manta ray.

Kanawa Island

Kanawa Island is quite safe for snorkelling. Because the spot is just around the jetty. In addition to snorkelling activities, we can relax on the beach and take photos on the wooden pier of Kanawa Island.
